Everyone has the right to accessible, affordable housing in the community of their choice.
At ACIL we provide housing education and consulting services to builders, realtors and landlords on housing needs and standards for people with disabilities. We also maintain a list of accessable housing both private and public as well as subsidies that are available. We can also assist you in completing housing applications.
The West Virginia Fair Housing Action Network (FHAN) is a project of the Northern West Virginia Center for Independent Living (NWCIL). This statewide project is funded by a year-long Fair Housing Initiatives Program grant through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The program assists people in filing housing discrimination complaints as well as investigating suspected cases of discrimination. Fair housing means you cannot be discriminated against based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, status or disability.
FHAN also helps people with disabilities make reasonable accommodation and modification requests in rental housing. The most common requests are for service/support animals, live-in aides and designated parking spaces.
